Optimism
Optimism is a vital value that helps us to face our problems and difficulties with a good attitude and perseverance, helping us to always look for the positive side to people and events, propelling us to trust in ourselves, in our capabilities and in the opportunities we earn with hope,
faith and hard work.
An optimistic person is characterized by having certain qualities that he or she works on every day: enthusiasm, effort, dynamism, a self-starting spirit and general cheerfulness in each daily act.
Optimism, in stark contrast to pessimism, insists on finding solutions to difficulties, and overcomes discouragement, sadness, apathy, and negligence by continually facing challenges and looking for new opportunities. It’s an attitude, an inner strength, and a contagious energy that gives the optimist a strong grip on life, courage, and hope.
Optimism doesn’t always result in success, although it is an important element in obtaining it. In any case, this attitude of “beginning anew”, of “getting back in the saddle” as many times as is necessary, makes us better human beings and also makes achieving our goals more possible. Failures and mistakes are just a part of life, and when we face up to these obstacles, optimism is more necessary than ever before, because it is the rock to which we anchor our efforts and our fighting spirit.
Optimism not only permits us to strengthen personal effort and initiative, but also to ask for help when it is needed in an honest and frank manner, without manipulation or trickery. Optimism allows us to ask for needed support without false flattery or putting up a front, and to be sincere in every situation.
Optimism is the traveling companion of those committed to overcoming obstacles, perseverance, hard work, sacrifice and discipline. It’s this invisible and passionate force that pushes us to fight for a challenge and have confidence in ourselves, under any circumstance, trying to succeed every day. It’s our most powerful ally in every moment and the vital energy that keeps us moving forward.
Optimism knows how to be intelligent, and evaluate difficulties and face up to them with sensitivity, it knows how to use common sense, and make use of personal abilities and limitations. Optimism knows how to act with knowledge and good measure. It knows how to appear in the most necessary moments and give us a hand when we need it.
False optimism is that which is based in lies, non-realities, passing moments of artificial happiness, illusions created by money or material things, and ends by diluting itself when reality returns, like sugar in coffee, without leaving a trace of actual happiness. But the optimism that is born of a person with an adequate attitude, happy with his or herself, and his or her environment, a coherent person with clear ideas and a fighting spirit, is converted in a powerful tool to achieve objectives, goals, challenges and to reach a more complete happiness.
Those things that mark life with moments of false optimism (purposeless evasion, alcohol, drugs, trends, parties, social commitments…), end up hitting reality and shattering in a thousand pieces of frustration, bitterness, depression and sadness.
Authentic optimism is that which is sincerely born of one’s self, that vital energy that overflows from each of our actions, which doesn’t need external support or pats on the back to prosper and stay firm. True optimism always sustains us in a solid and eternal way.
An innate optimist knows how to recognize the moments in which he or she can help by motivating or inspiring those that surround him or her. He or She knows how to overcome failures, be they at work, in his or her studies, in business or in love, accepting the inevitable, the defects of others, and recognizing the aptitudes and qualities that those that surround us can have. He or she knows how to make use of his or her personal values and make them stronger.
Being an optimist is an attitude that requires an enthusiastic and positive disposition. How can it be done?
– Look at things in a positive way, appreciating what is good.
– Contribute with solutions, ideas and suggestions. Don’t concentrate only on critiques and complaints.
– Look for your qualities and improve them, dedicate time and effort to bettering yourself.
– Be honest and simple.
– Make decisions with confidence, but base those decisions on prior deep reflection, with optimism but with prudence.
– Find stimulants that motivate you and never give up.
– Practice willpower and discipline.
– Set objectives for yourself, and don’t become depressed when you fail or regress, but use these moments as inspiration to keep trying.
– Make efforts as necessary with a positive and cheerful attitude, and they will stop being a burden and be converted in an interesting challenge.
– Convert your optimism into a positive force to improve your life and make it fuller and happier.
– Be an active optimist
Conclusion: living with optimism is the path to happiness.
